After cycling more than 2,000 km across Namibia, we’ve decided to take a few days off to join a local initiative supporting vulnerable children. The project is based in the village of Mavanze, a rural area 15 kilometers from the city of Rundu, home to many families with very limited resources.
Theresia’s Foundation is a small green oasis where local children know they can find a place to play, study, and also learn about agriculture. In fact, one of the Foundation’s branches focuses on cultivating land to generate income for the project. The Foundation also works actively to keep receiving donations to provide food for the children.
During our stay in Mavanze, David has been creating audiovisual content to promote the Foundation and to seek support from companies and individuals. Elena has been helping with tutoring, activities, and games to develop skills and competencies with the children who come to the Foundation every afternoon. Children of all ages show an endless enthusiasm for learning, observing, listening, discovering…
Additionally, David has been filming two music videos for two brothers who produce their own songs. The filming turned into a big event, with villagers and children eagerly joining in as singers and dancers. And, as you can imagine, there was very little shyness!
From our time in Mavanze, we’ve learned a lot about human resilience in the face of material scarcity. valuable insights into human resilience in the face of material poverty. Imagination and hope are powerful tools these children use to create opportunities where these are lacking.
